MoEA Targets Six-fold Increase in Sales Volume of Homegrown Electric Motorcycles by 2022
July 21, 2017

Taiwan's MoEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) has set a goal to push a five-year plan with an aim to increase Taiwanese homegrown electric motorcycles sales volume by six-fold, United Daily News reported on July 19. The ultimate goal is to sell 200 thousand units per year starting from 2022, up from the current 3,000 to 4,000 units. MOEA has earmarked a subsidy scheme for electric vehicle makers under which their light and heavy models are entitled to a subsidy of 10,000 NTD (USD 326.8) while extra-light models 7,200 NTD (USD 235.3). An extra NTD 2,000 (USD 65) subsidy will be given to those which have a built-in battery made by Taiwanese makers. In addition, subsidies for electric vehicles cover both recharging and swappable   batteries for now. However, starting from 2018, the subsidy scheme will cover those which come with a standardized battery.
